Tracy and the Rockets report for media day

Tracy posed for pictures and took time to talk with the media (interview above) yesterday at the Toyota center for the Rocket’s annual media day, held at the start of training camp. Tracy was candid with the media, leading some Rocket’s fans to already start to be nervous about their star’s health.
“My knee is about 75, 80 percent right now,” Tracy, said. “It took longer than expected. I was expecting to recover 100 percent in four months, but the doctor told me it would be six months or even more. My shoulder had, after surgery, kept bothering me. I had another MRI and discovered I have arthritis in there, so I have to have surgery again on my shoulder. That’s something I have to deal with again this season, but my knee should be ready by opening night.”
Tracy will be practicing with the team today during the first day of training camp, and said that while the shoulder would cause him pain throughout the year, it shouldn’t keep him out of the lineup.
“It’s not anything that is going to keep me out of games, but it’s going to bother me,” he said. “I played through it last year. I didn’t realize how bad it was. I’ll be ready to go.”
The Rocket’s also have 3 other starters coming off of surgeries including Rafer Alston, Yao Ming, and Shane Battier. Only Battier is expected to miss time on the court.
After discussing his injuries Tracy focused on how excited he was to have Ron Artest added to the club, giving the Rockets a “Big 3” of their own, reminiscent to Boston’s offseason additions and success from a year ago.
“It gives me hope,” McGrady said. “KG is one of my good friends and I was with him this summer and it just felt good. I was happy for him because he was kind of in the same situation I was; going to the playoffs, being put out seven straight times so he knows what I’m going through and it just felt good to see him happy, and to hear from him that my time was gonna come.”
As the Rocket’s begin their long journey to the 2008-09 NBA Championship with training camp today, the goal is clear.
“I want a championship,” said Tracy. “I don’t want to just get out of the first round – that’d be selling myself short.”

just finished watching a video of you scoring 30 against the Lakers. SooSoo sweet. Please don’t let all this clueless critics discourage you this season. I am glad that you and KG are close, and you are right when you say that he knows exactly what you are going through. But I have to say I like you more than KG. Sorry…You may have injuries again this season, who knows. The bottom line is“You also have more weapons than you did last year”. A lot of people like to judge a book not by its cover but by the media. When in actual reality, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. I have always liked Ron Artest (of course not as much as you), even though people loved to dog him out constantly. My husband told me once that Artest was an awesome player, but that he had serious issues. I asked him“Do you even know why he is dealing with issues”. Anyway, going by my instincts for characters in human beings, I do believe that Ron is a great human being. Thank god he is just as hungry for a championship as you are.What I am trying to say is’Forget what anyone else thinks about you and your team, you know the ultimate goal for yourself. I believe it is right in front of you. Just grab it….by the way…next time you have the urge to consume breakfast 3 o“clock in the Am…call me I will not turn of my phone…promise.

Tracy:
I do not know what interview others were listening to but I did not detect any overconfidence or “mouthing off” from you. You appeared happy to have a team that could be a great contender this year. The only thing I disagree with is I do not think that Brent should be point guard over Rafer because Rafer knows your and Yao’s game very well. I am not saying that this is what you were quoted as saying exactly but any way it is just my opinion. I wish you well and do not start putting your injuries in your mind because the tongue is very powerful. So, be very careful what you say and think. Overall, I think you have so much talent and is one of my very favorite players. Some times I think you underestimate your great talent. You have so much potential and I would love for you to recognize this and realize that you are at the very top of the list of current best players. They talk about Kobe and Lebron but you are just as good. I think the difference is that they know they are and I do not think that you think you are, are so let’s see a different attitude coming from you. You are the best so “know this” and you will have an awesome year. May God Continue to Bless You and Your Family!

im really worried about your shoulder but i know you can still play your best! I feel it this year! WE really REALLY need you to take your team to the championship. i just hope that your injuries work out all fine. Show them what you can do t-mac!

T-mac i have some advice for you, i’m sure you probly dont think you need it but just keep this in mind, dont get hot headed or big headed or start mouthing off or anything like that, yes you guys are good this year and yes you can win it all but dont get over confident, because when you do you let your gaurd down and the least expected people can blow by you. look at football last year, steelers garentee’d a victory over the patriots, that didn’t happen, the patriots garantee’d a win over the giants in the super bowl, that didn’t happen, last year in basketball the wizards players were feeling like they were unstoppable, like nothing could beat them so they garenteed a win over cleavland and were saying things about lebron, well guess whay, they didn’t win either so save all your hot headedness and pride, excitement for after you win the championship, just leave the rest to your fans and thats all you should need.

If you want to win a championship as we all do, shut the critics up and tell us that you’ll do what it takes to get us to the top. Your awesome man and I hope you quit going through the motions, You deserve to be recognized for how good you physically are, but we need to see your heart of a champion. Youll take the monkeys off your back. Clear your mind and satisfy that fire that burns within. You can take us there, but only if you want to. I believe in you T-Mac. Do you have the HEART to believe in yourself. I hope you make this year your best because you still have so much talent that you havent exploded with yet. This year is your year! God bless your mind, your heart and your family too.
